MAXEROO

Bryce Louw, also known as Maxeroo, has been drawing ever since he can remember, skating for years, and has been wearing glasses since he was 16 years old (not just the frames). He is a freelance illustrator and designer from Durban, South Africa with a passion for the beach, music, illustration, film, design, speed, and nature. He is a young vibrant lad whose talent is starting to take over the design and illustration realm, especially in the comic arts and sketching. Aweh sat down with Maxeroo to find out what makes him tick and what gets him sketching. AWEH: What is your first memory of creating art? Maxeroo: I don't know if this is a memory, or if I've built a "memory" out of what I'd been told, but I "remember" scribbling with coloured crayons on reams of fax paper that my dad would bring home for me from work. I think I was three years old or something, old school. Oh and at pre-school I have a distinct memory of being told by a friend of mine that in our paintings the sky should go all the way to the ground... It shattered my world. AWEH: What serves as your main motivation? Maxeroo: People, mood, atmosphere, feedback and girls; talent gets you ladies...apparently. I also think that I have an insatiable need to interpret and express. It's a release and a way of dealing with reality. AWEH: Do you have a favorite subject matter? Maxeroo: People, people doing things, the human form. Hands, feet, faces, clothes, gestures, it all blows my mind. I also really enjoy creating worlds and environments. AWEH: Explain the atmosphere you create when you are doing art; do you listen to music, work in silence, work naked..? Maxeroo: I listen to music most of the time, if there's silence it's usually because the playlist just came to an end and I'm way too into whatever I'm doing to notice or care. Music is probably the most important factor to keep me in a good and creative mindset. At the same time though, silence has it's time and place. Aside from that, I like to keep to myself, and just zone in. AWEH: What is YOUR definition of art? Maxeroo: Anything that portrays or puts across a certain mood or feeling that a viewer can relate to, feel or experience. It's the coming together of elements to create something, using composition, thought, consideration, love, personal interest, passion, sheesh... Haha, yeah, maybe. AWEH: Tell us who Maxeroo is. Maxeroo: It's me, but all up in the interwebs, pretty much. Except way more awesome and mysterious... AWEH: What are your goals for your art? Maxeroo: It always makes me next level stoked when I hear that someone picked up their sketchpad to draw, after years of neglecting it, after having had a look through one of mine, so I guess one of the goals is to inspire.. Fuck that, I want to be famous damn it! Okay, not really, kind of, I don't know.  Maybe it's the goal of self-improvement. I guess my main goal for my art though is to travel and survive by drawing, all day, with passion and verve. AWEH: What advice would you give to young artists out there? Maxeroo:Draw, doodle, scribble. Draw till your fingers bleed...and draw anything and everything!  Touch, feel, listen, watch, explore and absorb! Repeatedly and forever. Oh and start a blog, it's incredibly motivational! AWEH: So where can the good people of AWEH see more of your work? http://maxeroo.tumblr.com/ http://maxeroo.deviantart.com/
